Austin Joplin Spirit Scholarship
This Scholarship was established in the memory of Austin Joplin. Austin is a cousin of the Northeastern Lady Panthers' CPO, Michele Oliver. Austin was a victim of a robbery at his place of employment on May 15th, 2002, which resulted in his untimely death at the age of 23. This scholarship is in recognition of Austin’s spirit both on and off the basketball court. On the court it has been said that Austin would irritate his coach with “his style” of play versus the fundamentals of the game. Off the court, countless stories of Austin’s qualities that would make any parent proud: friendly, courteous, helpful, funny, heart-warming, and willingness to help a friend in need.
In recognition of Austin spirit, this scholarship will be awarded to any 8th grade or 12th grade Lady Panther graduate who exemplify his spirit. Coaches, Team Captains, and teammates can nominate any team member. The Organizations Director, Ricky Oliver, will receive nomination throughout the year. The award will be distributed at the completion of our regular season. Funding for this scholarship will be made in part by self sponsored tournaments and private donations. Solely the Director of the Organization will decide the dollar amount and the recipient(s). The dollar amount will be held in strict confidence between the Organization and their recipient(s).
